Layout the Drain
It all starts with planning. Calculate the size of your pool or patio and determine the best spot for a slot drain. Once you have your slot drain placement determined you can select the best length of drain for your installation. You want to set your slot drain to allow you to slope the surrounding material towards the drain at a minimum 0.5% slope to allow water to flow freely into the drain.

After Concrete Pour Pool Deck Slot Drain Installation. Concrete completely encases the Slot Drain System ensuring structural stability. Only the top profile of the slot drain is left visible. This flush-fit drain creates a safe and sleek pool deck surface. |
Set and Level the Catch Basin
A Catch Basin serves two functions. It connects your slot drain kit sections to your underground piping. It also serves as a break between the above and underground piping to filter out debris using the integrated strainer basket. Catch Basins supplied in our In-Stock Slot Drain Kits require some assembly; you can watch our video on how to assemble a catch basin here.

Catch Basins can be assembled in multiple configurations; this is an example of a catch basin placed on a corner that terminates two sections of slot drain. String lines are run to orient and level the drain. Slot drain systems are pre-sloped, simplifying leveling during installation. Just level the top of the drain to the string and the pre-sloped bottom ensures water will drain correctly. |
When installing a slot drain system start at your catch basin and work backwards. The sections will be numbered. You start by connecting the highest numbered section to the catch basin and proceeding in descending order. |

During drain assembly, it is recommended to pre-pour concrete pads to help anchor the drain. These pads aide in levelling the drain and ensure it does not move or float during installation and surfacing of the patio or pool deck |
Here is another example of how string lines are used during installation. String lines help provide a guide to ensure drains are level and straight. |
Pour Concrete and (if needed) Install Floor Finish
Once your slot drain is levelled and secured in place you can pour your concrete or other substrate. The slot drain system is designed to be completely encased in concrete. This provides long-term durability and structural stability. If your pool deck or patio has a concrete finish then this is your last step. However if you are installing another finish like tile or stone then this can be done on top of the concrete or crete. In this case, it is important to set your drain high enough that it will sit flush with the final floor finishing material.
