As its name suggests, the Trench Drain KeyForm creates natural keyways along the drain, resulting in robust adhesion and a seamless interface between floor coating and drain. A poor interface between the drain and the floor coating can lead to structural issues, including surface and subsurface cracking. These cracks create areas where liquids and solids can accumulate, increasing the risk of bacterial growth and hygienic challenges. The KeyForm accessory effectively mitigates these risks.
The KeyForm, crafted from powder-coated, high-grade aluminum, is positioned on both sides of the trench drain during the concrete pour and secured by replacing the grate. Once the concrete has reached its initial cure, but prior to the full cure, the KeyForm is removed, leaving behind two perfectly formed keyways. The system also protects the sides of the drain during the pour, reducing labor costs, minimizing rework potential, and improving overall quality.
By forming a precise keyway along both sides of the trench drain, the KeyForm maximizes the surface area for floor coatings and promotes efficient post-installation operations.
The keyways, combined with a proprietary nanotechnology pretreatment, strengthen the physical and chemical bond between floor and drain surfaces. When properly installed, the KeyForm has been shown to deliver an 80% improvement in bonding between the drain and the floor coating.
Traditional methods for creating a keyway involve manually chiseling the form into the concrete around the drain prior to application of the floor coating. The KeyForm accessory eliminates this laborious step, saving time and increasing efficiency, while establishing an effective connection point between drains and liquid-applied coatings.
The Trench Drain KeyForm System is fully compatible with all linear FoodSafe Trench Drains manufactured by FoodSafe Drains. It is available in standard 116-inch lengths for 1.375-inch and 2-inch grate-height trench drains, and installers can modify the standard lengths on site as needed.
